Exams are written at the end of each course in the CBV Program of Studies. Students may write the exam in either French or English.

Scheduling Exams

To schedule course exams, please follow the below steps:

  1. Log into Moodle.
  2. In your course cohort page, scroll down to the Examity Section, click on the Examity Portal which will take you to your Examity dashboard.
  3. Click “Schedule Exam”.
  4. Select your instructor – “CBV Institute Education”, and your course and exam name from the drop-down menus. It is essential that you choose the correct exam. If you do not choose the correct exam, you will not be able to write your exam on the day of. Ensure that you have selected the correct exam based on where you live. If you live in North, Central, or South America, please select the exam without a location specified.
  5. A calendar will appear. Select the time you would prefer to start your exam. All time slots are in the user’s local time. Once you schedule your exam, it is not, under any circumstances, possible to change your preferred start time, nor cancel your exam. If you have already opted out of writing your exam, or intend to, do not register with Examity.
  6. Click schedule.

If writing more than one exam, repeat steps 2-6.

Writing Exams

CBV Institute course exams are written in the Student’s location of choice (e.g. the Student’s home or office) using remote, live online proctoring provided by Examity. Exams will be recorded and may be retrieved and analyzed by CBV Institute, solely for the purpose of ensuring the integrity of the exams.

Students are soley responsible for ensuring that the computer they will be using to write their course exam meets the following hardware requirements. Find more information on hardware requirements and other important topics in the Proctored Exam Writing Guide.

ACCOMODATIONS FOR THOSE WITH A DISABILITY

Reasonable accommodations are available to those with a documented disability. Students are responsible to apply to CBV Institute for accommodations by the required deadline. Appropriate medical, psychoeducational or psychiatric documentation providing confirmation of disability and the accommodation required must be included with the request. Exam Opt out

Students who wish to opt-out of exams must do so by the deadline. Students who opt out of writing an exam may re-enrol for the same course at a lower fee in the immediate subsequent term. The lower fee will only apply for the immediate subsequent term and is only available to Students who paid the full fee for the course.

Students will receive two email communications from York University – School of Continuing Studies within two weeks before the opt-out deadline. Please contact cicbv@yorku.ca if you do not receive the emails.

Exam Results

Students will be notified via email when exam results are released. All results will be posted to the Student’s landing page on the CBV Institute website.

Appeals are only conducted on exams receiving a failing grade, and appeal decisions are final. Appeal requests must be submitted by the deadline. The fee for appealing an exam is $265 plus applicable taxes.


What does the appeal process cover?

  1. Ensures all answer books submitted by the Student were received for marking;
  2. Ensures all question answers were marked and final tally is correct;
  3. Re-marks answers to the examination;
  4. The Student will receive their examination response paper, and a written question-by-question analysis of their responses, with some detail provided as to where marks were deducted;
  5. Reviews and appeals are handled by the Academic Advisor or an appropriate alternate designated by the Academic Advisor;
  6. Students are only advised whether Review and Appeal resulted in a passing or failing grade. Students will not be advised of grade achieved.

Requesting exam performance feedback

Feedback on exams is available to Students who do not wish to appeal their mark. The request for feedback on an exam must be made by the exam opt-out deadline in the immediately-following term. The fee for requesting feedback on a course exam is $300 plus applicable taxes.


What does the feedback process cover?

  • A review of the Student’s exam responses, to determine areas of strength and weakness
  • A memo containing observations with respect to the Student’s exam responses, including suggestions to potentially improve the Student’s performance on future exams
  • Feedback communication is final. Students will not receive additional materials or communication after the feedback communication is issued.

ACAdemic honesty

Students and MQE Candidates have an obligation to maintain the highest standards of academic honesty. Academic honesty requires that persons do not attempt to gain an improper advantage in an academic evaluation in any way.

Suspected breaches of academic honesty will be investigated by the Institute and/or its designate, in accordance with the Academic Honesty policy of CBV Institute, and/or the rules and regulations of the university acting as the Institute’s designate, York University.
