This 1-day course will deal with the income tax implications of separation and divorce. Primarily, it will deal with the tax aspects of spousal and child support, divisions of marital property, resolving corporate tax issues, the principal residence exemption, and transfers of pension and retirement benefits. While the focus of the course is on income tax implications, the course will also deal with income determinations under the Federal Child Support Guidelines and the Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines. It will also deal with the distinctions between property and income under Ontario’s Family Law Act. Finally, the course will touch upon the recent Ontario legislation dealing with pension divisions and the settlement options available to separating spouses.
This is the second offering of this seminar. The seminar was originally offered on November 6, 2012 and Sold Out.
