On June 14, 2017, a Practice Inspection Program as described in the attached “Consideration of Matters Raised by Respondents to Exposure Draft” was approved for implementation by the CICBV Board of Directors.

Any work product which is subject to the CICBV’s Practice Standards, and that is issued on or after January 1, 2018 will be subject to selection for inspection commencing in 2019.  As compliance with the Practice Inspection Program will be mandatory, Members and Registered Students who sign or otherwise take responsibility for a work product should advise clients that their work may be subject to selection for practice inspection, and that they may be required to provide Institute Inspectors with access to their work product and supporting files.

The Institute commenced the process of establishing a Practice Inspection Program in 2016, with the issuance of an Exposure Draft which set out the details of a proposed program, in order to inform Members and Registered Students and obtain comments on it.

The establishment of a Practice Inspection Program is consistent with the CICBV’s commitment to professional excellence for the benefit of the public interest. It is also is in line with the practices of other professions, and serves to:

  • Enhance the confidence that the public and regulatory or other bodies have in the CBV profession; and
  • Assist in maintaining or improving the quality of services provided.

The existence of a thorough and reputable Practice Inspection Program will support the CICBV in continuing to operate in a self-regulating environment.
