Many aspects of family law have income tax consequences that counsel needs to consider in advising their clients. Complex files may require the involvement of tax lawyers and accountants; however other financial experts involved in these matters, including CBVs, may be asked for their advice on various income tax issues in less complicated matters. As a result, knowledge of where tax implications can arise is an important skill to these practitioners. This session will identify the areas that practitioners should be aware of including pre-nuptial agreements, marriage contracts, separation agreements, property division, child and spousal support and Guideline Income, and as time allows, expand on the most common issues that practitioners may see.
