The Manager, Valuations leads the Valuations Unit which is responsible for the development of methodologies, the production and validation of premium rates, insurable values, benchmark production units and commodity prices. In addition, this unit evaluates the accuracy of the values they establish and the adequacy of the data and methods used to establish them.

You will set standards and lead the development of methodologies for establishing valuations through consultation with industry, other provinces, Canada, independent actuaries and industry experts to improve accuracy and meet regulation and cost sharing requirements. Projects often involve contracts with actuaries, industry specialists and other technical experts.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Registered as a Professional Agrologist, or immediately eligible* for registration as a Professional Agrologist, with the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists. *Note: immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a professional Agrologist in another Canadian jurisdiction and able to transfer that membership to the BCIA. It is the responsibility of the applicant to have the BCIA review their qualifications to ensure they have the necessary requirements for registration.
  • A Degree in Agriculture or a related science, Economics, or closely related field such as statistics, commerce, or mathematics and at least five years’ experience performing evaluation and/or complex problem-solving, with a minimum of two of those years in a leadership role performing evaluation and/or complex problem-solving; Preference may be given to the above minimum five years experience performing evaluation and/or complex problem solving in a Canadian agriculture related role.
  • OR, an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • At least five year’s experience working in the Canadian agricultural sector as an analyst, producer, advisor, or product representative.
  • At least two year’s experience supervising technical and/or professional staff.
  • Experience in negotiating/mediating solutions.
  • Experience in project management, business process review and program monitoring.
  • Experience working with Excel.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience working with database applications and queries.
